Black Tide Released for One-year Anniversary of BP Oil Spill & Earth Day Antonia Juhasz says Gulf Oil Disaster is Not Over and Warns it Could Happen Again
Black Tide: the Devastating Impact of the Gulf Oil Spill (Wiley 2011) by Antonia Juhasz released April 18 in preparation for this week's one-year anniversary of the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon (April 20) and Earth Day (April 22). BLACK TIDE is a searing look at the human face of BP's disaster in the Gulf.
Dramatic and compelling, BLACK TIDE is based on hundreds of personal interviews Antonia Juhasz conducted during her time spent embedded within those communities most impacted by the disaster. BLACK TIDE exposes the human failings and human cost of the largest oil disaster in American history -- and shows how it could easily happen again.
Juhasz has just returned from BP's annual shareholder meeting in London, which she attended on April 14 along with a delegation of Gulf Coast residents that were harmed by the BP spill. Antonia was able to address the meeting directly, forcing CEO Bob Dudley to respond to her from the stage. There is video footage HERE .
The Niemen Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University just released a list composed by Juhasz called "Questions for BP and the oil industry, one year after Deepwater Horizon." She has written several articles in the past week and the preceding months on the disaster, which are found HERE
BLACK TIDE is the only book to tell this story through the perspective of people on all sides of the catastrophe, from those who lost their lives, loved ones, and livelihoods to those who made the policies that set the devastating event in motion, those who cut the corners that put corporate profits over people and the environment, and those who have committed their lives to ensuring that such an event is never repeated.
BLACK TIDE: the Devastating Impact of the Gulf Oil Spill (Wiley, April 2011) review copies available upon request.
Juhasz is an expert in all aspects of oil and energy policy. She is an experienced media spokesperson and is very personable on the air/television.

“We cannot allow the BP disaster to be pushed from public view the way BP used chemical dispersants to hide the oil. These remarkable stories—of loss, heroism, and culpability—are a vivid reminder that this catastrophe will be with us for decades, and that we have not yet made the changes necessary to prevent destruction in the future,” said Naomi Klein, author of The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism

“Black Tide is extremely well researched, reasoned and written." --Dr. Robert Bea, Deepwater Horizon Study Group
"Black Tide is riveting, infuriating, and incredibly important to understand the places, politics, and people who survived the Gulf oil disaster." --Rebecca Solnit, author of A Paradise Built in Hell. |
